    Laser Skin Tightening Q & A
What Happens During a Skin Tightening Procedure?*
During a laser skin tightening procedure, the doctor will measure and mark the area to be treated, then the skin will be cooled and prepped for the procedure. A device that emits ultrasound waves, radio waves or, in some cases, light waves will be passed over the skin. This not only affects the skin, but also the muscles and connective tissues underneath. The treatment is designed to stimulate the production of collagen. Lastly, the skin will be cooled one more time to help alleviate any discomfort and irritation.

    Is Skin Tightening Painful?*
Due to the minimally invasive nature of the procedure, there is little discomfort. Throughout the procedure, patients reported feeling various levels of vibration, accompanied by fluctuating sensations related to the temperature of the device being used. Following the procedure, the patient may feel slight irritation and discomfort near where it was performed as well as slight tenderness. As the tissues under the skin begin to heal, the muscles and connective tissue may be somewhat sore. Most skin tightening procedures do not produce intense pain, only minimal discomfort in and around the tissues that were treated.

How Long Will a Laser Skin Tightening Treatment Last?*

If the skin and tissues are properly taken care of, Laser Skin Tightening results can last for years to come depending on lifestyle, sun exposure and heredity. New collagen continues to be produced long after the procedure has been performed, which means that within the first one or two years, the level of collagen that is created will continue to increase. It can take up to three years for the amount of collagen to begin to dissipate. Each time a skin tightening procedure is performed, the stimulation of collagen continues to increase. With proper care of the skin, these techniques can improve the elasticity of the skin and dramatically slow down the aging process.
