Your hair follicles are connected to oil glands. These glands secrete an oily substance called sebum to lubricate your hair and skin. Sebum normally travels along the hair shafts and through the openings of the hair follicles onto the surface of your skin.<\/p>\n<p>When your body produces an excess amount of sebum and dead skin cells, the two can build up in the hair follicles, causing them to form a soft plug where bacteria can thrive. If the clogged pore becomes infected with bacteria, inflammation results and the outcome is a pimple. Pimples are a raised red spots with a white center that develop when blocked hair follicles become inflamed or infected.<\/p>\n<p>Other forms of acne include black heads, black heads occur when the plug is open to the surface and may cause darkening in which is called an open comedone. Can be linked to cystic acne.<\/li>\n<li>Silica\u2013 can be pore clogging<\/li>\n<li>Mica\u2013 some find this irritating, but isn\u2019t as bad as talc<\/li>\n<li>Oxybenzone\u2013 ingredient in chemical sunscreens. It is carcinogenic, can causes free radical damage, and increases photosensitivity.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Not drinking enough water<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>When dehydrated your pores can become clogged because the skin is much dryer when the body is not properly hydrated. What these means, is an abundance of dead skin cells on the surface of the skin, which eventually accumulate and clog the pore.
